Healthcare payroll is hard.
Managing it compliantly shouldn’t be.

Healthcare payroll is among the most complex in the country – rotating rosters, mixed engagement types, multiple awards, penalty rates and registration requirements, all for a workforce that’s perpetually short of qualified people. Healthcare and aged care employers carry that load across permanent, casual, agency and contract staff at once.

Accelerate Workforce Solutions manages the workforce behind healthcare. We take on contractor and contingent workforce management, payroll, engagement compliance and employer-sponsored migration – so your team can focus on care delivery rather than paperwork.

And because we’re a workforce business with an in-house Registered Migration Agent, we can do something most providers can’t: sponsor the skilled healthcare workers you can’t find locally, then manage them once they’re here.

The workforce challenges facing healthcare and aged care employers

Skills shortages are the headline, but they’re rarely the whole problem. Most healthcare and aged care employers we speak to are managing a workforce made up of permanent staff, casuals, agency workers and independent contractors – often across several sites, sometimes across several states. Each group carries different obligations.

That mix is where the risk sits. Award interpretation across shift loadings, penalty rates and allowances is unforgiving. Worker classification errors carry real consequences. Registration and right-to-work status has to be verified and kept current. And the administrative load of it all tends to land on operational managers who were hired to run a service, not a payroll function.

How Accelerate supports healthcare workforces

We manage the engagement, payment and compliance layer of your healthcare workforce – including healthcare payroll services built for multi-site, multi-award environments – and we tailor it to how your organisation actually operates:

Contingent Workforce Management

Engagement, onboarding, payment and compliance for contract and casual healthcare workers across multiple sites and states.

Employer-Sponsored Migration

Sponsorship, nomination and visa management for overseas nurses, allied health and care staff – led by a Registered Migration Agent.

SID 482 & On-Hire Labour Agreement

Skills in Demand 482 sponsorship, including on-hire arrangements that let sponsored healthcare workers be placed with host organisations.

Employer of Record

The engagement model underpinning how we employ and manage workers on your behalf, in Australia and internationally.

Healthcare payroll services and compliance, managed

Healthcare carries a compliance layer most industries don’t. Practitioner registration has to be verified and monitored, not just checked once at onboarding. Right-to-work and visa conditions need the same treatment, particularly where sponsored or student-visa workers are involved. We build both into our onboarding and ongoing workforce management process, so the status of every worker you engage through us is current and evidenced.

The payroll side is equally demanding. Healthcare and aged care workforces sit across multiple modern awards, with shift loadings, penalty rates, broken shifts and allowances that vary by role and setting. Add worker classification, superannuation and PAYG obligations across a mixed workforce and the margin for error narrows considerably. Our payroll team manages this as core business – interpreting the applicable instrument, applying it correctly and keeping records that stand up to scrutiny.

Why healthcare employers choose Accelerate

A Registered Migration Agent in-house.

Immigration assistance in Australia is regulated. Our migration practice is led in-house by Virginia Bennett, Registered Migration Agent (MARN 2217993) – so sponsorship for your healthcare roles is handled by a qualified specialist who keeps pace with a system that changes constantly.

Workforce and migration under one roof.

Most migration providers stop at the visa grant. Most workforce providers can’t sponsor at all. We do both – which means a sponsored nurse or allied health professional can move from visa application to onboarding, payroll and ongoing management without changing partners.

Built for mixed, multi-site workforces.

Permanent, casual, contract and sponsored workers across several locations is our normal operating environment, not an exception. We handle the engagement complexity so your rostering and operational teams don’t have to.

Who we help in healthcare

Our healthcare workforce support suits:

  • Hospitals and health services: Managing contingent and contract clinical and non-clinical workforces alongside permanent staff.
  • Aged care and disability providers: Meeting staffing requirements across multiple sites with a workforce that has to be engaged, paid and evidenced correctly.
  • Healthcare recruitment and on-hire agencies: Who source the talent and need a workforce partner to engage, pay and keep it compliant behind the scenes.
  • Primary care, allied health and medical practices: Smaller teams without an in-house HR or payroll function.
  • Providers sponsoring from overseas for the first time: Who need guidance through Standard Business Sponsorship before they can hire.

How the process works

We keep it structured and visible:

  1. Assess: We map your current workforce, engagement types and compliance exposure, and identify where the risk and the administrative load actually sit.
  2. Design: We recommend the right engagement model for each cohort, including whether sponsorship or an on-hire arrangement makes sense.
  3. Onboard: We take on engagement, verification, contracts and payroll setup, with registration and right-to-work checks built in.
  4. Manage: We run payroll, maintain compliance and sponsor obligations, and report back, adjusting as your workforce changes.

Healthcare Workforce FAQs

Q1. Do you supply nurses and clinical staff?
Not directly. Accelerate is a workforce management business, not a clinical recruitment agency. We engage, pay, sponsor and manage healthcare workers – including workers sourced by your own team or by a recruitment partner – and we can support sourcing through our Integrated Talent Solutions offering. If you need a workforce managed compliantly, that’s our core business.

Q2. Can you help us sponsor overseas nurses or allied health professionals?
Yes. Employer-sponsored migration is one of our core services, led in-house by a Registered Migration Agent. We manage the full process – Standard Business Sponsorship, nomination and visa application – and can then manage that worker as part of your ongoing workforce.

Q3. What’s an on-hire labour agreement, and why does it matter in healthcare?
It’s an arrangement that allows a business to sponsor overseas workers and place them with host organisations. For healthcare, where agency and on-hire engagement is common, it opens a sponsorship pathway that a standard sponsorship arrangement doesn’t. It’s an area where our combined migration and workforce capability is a genuine advantage.

Q4. How do you handle practitioner registration and right-to-work checks?
Verification is built into our onboarding process and monitored on an ongoing basis rather than checked once.

Q5. Which awards and instruments do you work across?
Our payroll team works across the modern awards and enterprise agreements applying to healthcare and aged care workforces, including the shift loadings, penalty rates and allowances that come with them. We’ll confirm the applicable instrument for each cohort as part of the assessment.

Q6. Can you manage a workforce that’s part permanent, part casual and part contract?
Yes – that’s the situation most of our healthcare clients are in. We manage the contingent and contract portion alongside your permanent team, with the engagement model matched to each cohort.
